From the 22nd to the 26th February the first crew was instructed to the Airbus A380 in Frankfurt/ Main. The initial spark was the Cockpit4u Aviation Service GmbH which is the first private owned TRTO with the permission to teach pilots on the A380.
The first part of the training took place in the training center in Berlin close to Schoenefeld airport. The pilots were theoretically introduced to the expected tasks in the cockpit of the A380. Furthermore they had to focus on the new systems and especially the overall procedures. The instructors shared their knowledge and were able to answer all questions. Due to the close cooperation with Lufthansa, the following training at the MFTD took already place at the full-flight-simulator in Frankfurt.
The second part of training in the flight simulator had the purpose to teach practice-oriented lessons such as landing procedure with two broken engines, dysfunctions in the electric and double defects in the hydraulics. These are situations which pilots have to cope with in cases of emergency. Finally the intensive a goal-oriented training was finished by a skill test, which was successfully passed by all participants.
Cockpit4u receives a lot of enquiries whether such qualification is really worth it. “The outlook for a place in a cockpit is promising and several carriers have already shown a demand in highly qualified and experienced pilots.”, the meaning of the head of training. The interest is high and the next course has already begun.
